Max, a 5-year-old neutered English bulldog, is an affectionate, calm boy whose owner relinquished him due to hardship. Max will not need lots of space or exercise, but short daily walks in cool, non-humid weather are a good idea to keep him fit. He has short bursts of doggy energy followed by the intense desire to take a nap. Bulldogs tend to have several genetic health issues as a breed; eye conditions are common. The breed can also overheat very quickly, so they cannot be left outside or exercised in warm or humid weather. Max needs to live in a home with air conditioning, with a family who is familiar with the breed and its (sometimes costly) veterinary needs and its snoring. Research the breed carefully, and come visit this laid-back guy. English bulldogs are typically good with children, but as far as we know, Max has not lived with any, so bring all humans and any existing dogs to meet him. Children in the home can help with daily care, but should not be expected to take full care of any pet without adult supervision. Max is up-to-date on his vaccinations (though he will need a rabies shot in the upcoming weeks) and has been microchipped and dewormed. He will be available at 2 p.m. today at the Atlanta Humane Society, 981 Howell Mill Road, N.W. Sealed bids will be accepted starting at 10 a.m. if more than one party is interested. Please note that the highest bidder must meet adoption qualifications. Look at all our available pets at www.atlantahumane.org.
