Have you been looking a “long” time for the right puppy? Weiner you going to make your decision? Gretel, a 3.5-month-old spayed Dachshund, is a sweet, silly puppy with a lot of love to give. She is an extended-length, wiggly ball of energy who always seems to have one ear flopped backward in a jaunty way. Gretel will need daily walks and playtime, but should not need a lot of exercise. Dachshunds are smart and trainable with positive methods, but without training can become spoiled, headstrong and noisy. They can sometimes be harder to housebreak than larger breeds, but with patience and confinement, it shouldn’t take too much time. They cannot be allowed to become overweight, as this puts too much stress on their backs. Dachshunds can be headstrong, but training, structure and leadership always help. Crate training can be a huge help in many ways. When well trained and socialized, the breed is often the perfect size for smaller spaces (or short, lengthy spaces). Gretel seems to like everyone, so she might make a nice family pet for a household with not-so-rambunctious children. Children in the home can help with daily care, but should not be expected to take full care of any pet without adult supervision. Please research the breed, and then bring all children (and any existing dogs) to meet Gretel. Gretel will need further puppy vaccinations and a rabies shot. She has been microchipped and dewormed. She will be available at 2 p.m. today at the Atlanta Humane Society Howell Mill Campus, 981 Howell Mill Road N.W. Sealed bids will be accepted starting at 11 a.m. if more than one party is interested. Please note that the highest bidder must meet adoption qualifications.
