Xena, a 3-year-old spayed Great Dane, is a large, sweet, social adult dog who was surrendered because her owners could no longer care for her. She is not super energetic, but will need daily walks at least. Great Danes are typically “gentle giants” who do not understand how large they really are, and can be sort of bumbling and ungraceful at times; if you live in a home full of priceless antiques and/or own a Smartcar, you should consider a more petite canine. This happy girl likes to play fetch and get belly rubs. Xena has lived with other dogs and cats, and got along well with both. She has not lived with children that we know of, but she is very calm and would probably do fine with well-behaved kids. Bring any children and existing dogs to meet her. Though she is the size of a small pony (142 pounds), she does not want to be ridden. Large breeds have special challenges: Xena will cost more to feed, house and keep healthy, so make sure you can afford a giant dog. This gorgeous girl is up-to-date on her vaccinations and has been microchipped and dewormed. She will be available at 2 p.m. today at the Atlanta Humane Society, 981 Howell Mill Road N.W. Sealed bids will be accepted starting at 11 a.m. if more than one party is interested. Please note that the highest bidder must meet adoption qualifications.
