Pompoms have always been a favorite embellishment of mine. They are adorable. I have a big jar of them in my studio that has been waiting patiently to be used on this new children’s birthday party centerpiece. Pompoms are pure fun, colorful, inexpensive and quite delightful, a must-have for any well-stocked craft closet.
Gather:
Tree branch
Pompoms
Hot glue gun
Scissors
Mason jar
Fabric with butterflies (I used Birdsong from my Chinoiserie Chic collection for FreeSpirit Fabrics)
Cardstock
Spray adhesive
Create:
1. Find a small branch in your garden. I chose one with a lot of little branches for a nice, full look.
2. Using hot glue, attach pompoms onto your branch. There’s no specific way to do this, simply glue them to the branch every few inches.
3. Cut out fabric butterflies. I used butterflies from a scrap of fabric that I already had. Glue the butterflies to a piece of cardstock using spray adhesive. Cut them out using small sharp scissors.
4. Glue the butterflies to the branches.
5. Fill a mason jar with more pompoms and place the branch inside the jar.
If you’re feeling ambitious, make the pompoms from scratch using yarn. Make them nice and full for the best results.
