By October there will be a new vest-pocket park in the Castleberry neighborhood, wedged among the lofts, factories and artists’ studios in this intown neighborhood.

The small parcel in between two buildings at 154 Walker Street will be transformed with plantings, lighting and seating into an inviting nook for Castelberry strollers. Groundbreaking for the “Castleberry Spur” was last week.

It “will serve as an inviting place for the community to gather,” said Carrie Burns, President of the Castleberry Hill Neighborhood Association.

The construction is part of an initiative created by Project for Public Spaces, and funded by New Amsterdam Spirits, makers of gin, vodka and flavored vodkas. The distiller is supporting the creation of public spaces in neighborhoods around the country.
