Whether it’s during a winter cold snap or the heart of the summer heat, traveling as a family means finding ways to keep youngsters entertained.

In a recent roundup, Redbook ranked the best kid-friendly tourist attraction in every state.

Here in the Peach State, the Georgia Aquarium got top marks from the magazine.

Redbook praised the downtown attraction for allowing kids to “learn about sealife,” adding that the aquarium is “full of magical and fun experiences to keep them busy all day long.”

The magazine called out the Georgia Aquariums’s six separate galleries full of more than 70 habitats and thousands of various creatures.

The roundup also highlighted the aquarium’s dolphin show and animal encounter programs.

The aquarium, which opened at 225 Baker Street NW in 2005, is the largest of its kind in the Western Hemisphere.

During its first year alone, more than 3.6 million guests visited the aquarium, according to its website.

Recently, the aquarium announced new leadership when Brian Davis took over as president and CEO.

In the statement, Davis says he is “honored to lead this great organization.”

“I’m grateful to continue the hard work our team has been doing over the last several years and build upon our ongoing success,” Davis said.

The aquarium also shared recently that one of its beluga whales, Whisper, is expected to give birth to a calf in April.

"We routinely monitor the health and wellbeing of all of our animals which allows us to detect even subtle changes in their health, like the upward trend in Whisper's hormones," Tonya Clauss, the aquarium's vice president of animal health said in a statement.

The announcement goes on to say that the aquarium is “hopeful” that Whisper, who is 20 years old, and the calf “will have a safe delivery come spring.”
