Legoland: 5 adults-only events at Atlanta attractions

OK, so maybe you over 21 and (still) love building Legos. Or maybe you light up over the idea of spending a Friday evening making Alka-Seltzer rockets or perusing the Georgia Aquarium with cocktail in hand? Atlanta is not only home to fabulous attractions for kids and families but several hold adults-only events -- perfect for fun date nights or an evening out with friends.

Here is a look at five adults-only events in metro Atlanta worth checking out:

Martinis & IMAX has been a regular event for several years. Fernbank decided to change their evening offerings by replacing Martinis & IMAX with new, hands-on science experiments and other activities.PHOTO CONTRIBUTED .

The Fernbank Museum of Natural History has ended its long-running Martinis & Imax series and has started new, adults-only, interactive science events.  Coined “Fernbank After Dark,” this series launched earlier this year and will be held from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. on the second Friday of each month. The next one is April 14.

“Fernbank After Dark” will feature different science experiments every month such as making dry ice bubbles. The new evening series will also feature live music and films on the new giant screen theater. Small bites and a rotating menu of craft cocktails and beers will also be served.

Held the second Friday of each month from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. Activities and demonstrations will be held from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Live music will be featured from 9:45 p.m. to 11 p.m. Fernbank's Café will serve small plates from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. The Mesozoic Bar will serve drinks from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. Films will be shown in the Giant Screen Theater at 8 p.m., 9 p.m. and 10 p.m. Food and drinks are offered a la carte. $15 general admission. $20 for general admission and ticket to see a film. Members $10 for general admission; $15 for general admission and film. Tickets to Fernbank After Dark can be purchased online in advance at fernbankmuseum.org or at the box office. Adult Night at Legoland

Legoland Discovery Center Atlanta hosts Adult Nights every third Thursday of the month from 7-9 p.m. for Adult Fans of LEGO (AFOL’s, they like to call them!).

The center opens its doors to give visitors without children the chance to check out the attraction. Each Adult Night will have themed activities, a building competition, prizes, and infinite opportunities to build a relationship with fellow AFOLs (Adult Fan of LEGO) in the Atlanta area.

Adult Night will take place from 7-9 p.m., and tickets can be purchased at the door for $19.95 or online ahead of time for $14.95. Guests will have access to the LEGO Factory Tour, MINILAND, Kingdom Quest laser ride, Merlin’s Apprentice, Pirate Adventure Island and the 4D Cinema in addition to the LEGO shop.

Sips Under the Sea Cinco de Mayo is the next event for guests 21 and up taking place on Friday, May 5th at 7pm.

Enjoy margaritas and small plates and party the night away at the Georgia Aquarium, home to whale sharks, beluga whales, African Penguins and thousands of sea animals inhabiting a 6.3 million gallon Ocean Voyager.

Adults get the entire Aquarium to themselves.  Tickets on sale at www.georgiaaquarium.org/sips. Tickets prices: $24.95-$48.95. VIP tickets and tickets for a sleepover at the Aquarium are also available.

The Atlanta History Center hosts trivia nights at the Margaret Mitchell House as a part of their "Party with a Past" series.

"Party with the Past" with Atlanta History Center 

"Party With the Past" events are held every other month, at different historic sites, featuring free history talks with a cash bar that sometimes also serves food. Geared toward "young professionals," these events are always free to attend. Organized by the History Center in coordination with host sites, these moveable parties have taken place at the Fox Theatre, Georgia Freight Depot, Callanwolde Arts Center and the Sweet Auburn Curb Market. The next history-themed party will take place at the Center for Puppetry Arts where you can explore the history of this unique art form and why it thrives in Atlanta. http://www.atlantahistorycenter.com/programs/party-with-the-past-center-for-puppetry-arts And the party that will follow in June (exact date TBA) will be at the Georgia Beer Garden. Atlanta Zoo events for adults

“Brew at the Zoo, “Sippin Safari” and “Beastly Feast” are three adults-only events on the calendar at the Atlanta Zoo this year.

Brew at the Zoo is back with unlimited sampling of over 70 beers and wines, live music on multiple stages, and more in the home of over 1,000 animals from around the world, taking place 5:30 p.m – 9:30 p.m. May 27. Ticket prices: $45 general admission for zoo members; $50 general admission for non-zoo Members; VIP tickets are $100. Tickets go on sale April 1. It is a popular event and has sold out during recent years.

“Sippin Safari” takes place in the fall on Sept. 23.

Another event for adults only is the Beastly Feast fundraiser

6:30 p.m. – 12:00 a.m. May 6. A unique locale and a spectacular auction begins at sunset with a stroll throughout the Zoo grounds as guests enjoy cocktails and hors d’oeuvres from kiosks hosted by Atlanta restaurants. A seated dinner and dancing to the music of a live band will follow in the Ford Pavilion. Individual tickets for this fundraiser start at $450.
