When Marcia Jaffe purchased her Sandy Springs townhome in 2011 she was downsizing from a larger home. She combined furniture she already owned with designer pieces and bargain finds to create a unique and stylish look.
Jaffe worked with interior designer Mitzi Rothman as she downsized and decorated her new home, picking out colors, refurbishing furniture she already owned and selecting new furniture. Rothman offered helpful suggestions and tempered decor ideas that might age quickly.
“She saved me from myself. I would pick out these really crazy things,” said Jaffe. “She let me still be fun, but it wouldn’t be crazy.”
They gave some of Jaffe’s decor an update, like the reupholstered gold velour sofa in the living room, and picked out pieces that gave the space pizazz, like the 6-foot tall wire horse sculpture from ADAC by the sofa.
Jaffe also added hints of color throughout the space, like painting her tray ceilings in her master bedroom and the backs of the shelves in the living room in Martha Stewart Living Ice Water paint.
“Without a designer I never would have had the courage to do an ice flow color,” said Jaffe.
