Marcia Harvey’s new townhome is hours from the coast, but the architecture is inspired by historic Charleston homes and the community layout is reminiscent of a Florida vacation spot.
“I was looking for something that would be a community versus a row of townhomes,” she said. “It reminds me of Rosemary Beach.”
She and her teenage sons moved from a country club community in Johns Creek into Harlow, an Edward Andrews Homes neighborhood. The three-story townhome allowed her to create a gaming room with a sectional for Luke, 14, and a hangout room with a Ping-Pong table and a snack bar for Jake, 17.
“The No. 1 thing about this townhome that I loved is that there is space for each of us,” she said. “I want them to be able to have fun and enjoy their space.”

Favorite interior design elements: The tile wall in the kitchen. "I did a full wall of tile in the kitchen as opposed to the backsplash, which goes all the way up to the ceiling, which is really fun," Harvey said. "It has nice high ceilings on the first floor, and it takes your eye up all the way to the ceiling versus stopping at the cabinet line."

Favorite piece of furniture: The 10-foot wood dining table from Crate & Barrel, which is where her family comes together to connect. It also gives them plenty of space to gather with friends, she said.

Favorite outdoor elements: One reason she chose her unit is the outdoor living space, which includes a paver patio and a separate pea gravel patio with a fireplace. "We have a small fenced-in yard in the back with an outdoor fireplace, which I love," Harvey said.
Favorite pet-friendly elements: She selected natural woven rugs on the hardwood floors. "I have two 100-pound dogs. I am all about easy to maintain and durable, but I want it to look great, too," she said.
Resources: Furniture from RH and Crate & Barrel. Custom sectionals from Laura Walker Ltd. Accessories from All Inspired Boutique and Linen & Flax Home. Hardwood floors by Shaw, carpet by Mohawk, plumbing fixtures by Moen and KitchenAid appliances.
Decor tip: Use consistent color throughout (she used Sherwin-Williams' Agreeable Gray for the walls) and then add interest with different textures and materials.
