Brian and Angela Fisher knew they had something special with their front porch, and even Hollywood took notice.
The Avondale Estates couple drew inspiration from their grandparents' porches and a neighbor's home in adding a cedar arbor and columns. The arbor, which is often relegated to the back or side of a house, helped enhance the facade and fill out the front porch of the A-frame home, which was used to film CW's "The Vampire Diaries."
“We made the entry a little more of a statement,” Angela said.

Favorite interior design elements: The blend of modern and traditional furnishings. For example, in the master bedroom, a custom upholstered bed is flanked by traditional nightstands topped with modern drum shade lamps. The family room has a custom carpet in a bold diamond pattern made into a rug, mixed with traditional arm chairs and custom geometric throw pillows on the track arm sofa and modern porcelain table lamps, said Perry Walter, their interior designer.
Favorite outdoor feature: Landscaped backyard with extras such as an outdoor shower and a small pond.

Decor tip: Area rugs and custom carpets made into rugs can reduce noise when you have young children who enjoy playing on the floor. Walter suggests using soft pile rugs in the main living spaces and bedrooms.
