White painted brick walls, artwork and mid-century modern furniture come together for a casual contemporary design in Mark and Dave Curran's four-story Atlanta townhouse.

The outdoor spaces include room for a bistro bar table to appreciate the architectural elements of neighboring buildings.

The rooftop deck offers city views and a place for container and vertical gardening.

The four-level brick townhome in Atlanta's Castleberry Hill neighborhood was built in 2002 by Gallman Development Group.

The black armchairs, designed by Eero Saarinen, are set against white brick walls that once had a pinkish-red hue. The homeowners say the chairs are the most comfortable ones they've ever sat in. "They would be a pleasure to sit down for a long dinner and just enjoy," said Dave Curran.

The homeowners' dog, Chelsea, sits on a blue velvet couch from Room & Board. The Castleberry Hill residence has interior brick walls that the homeowners painted white and paintings by Willy Heeks.

The Vertigo Pendant chandelier, which looks like a hat, also is an ode to the location in Atlanta's Castleberry Hill neighborhood, which was an industrial and railroad hub. It was selected by Kate Hayes Design when the homeowners renovated the main living space and kitchen.

A Eames House Bird is perched atop a storage unit by Charles and Ray Eames. The storage unit's shelves keep dinnerware handy, as well as serve as a display spot for books.

Abstract paintings by Willy Heeks, an American artist, are above a blue velvet sofa from Room & Board. The home is on the Oct. 13 Castleberry Hill Loft Tour.

The six-person dining set with a tulip-shaped pedestal base was designed by Eero Saarinen. The furniture was intentionally kept low in order to let the artwork, some of which was purchased at estate sales, to have its own space, they said.

The four-story townhome is filled with modern artwork and mid-century furniture. "We wanted to be contemporary, but at the same time, comfortable for our friends and guests coming over," Mark Curran said.

A walnut stool designed by Charles and Ray Eames for Design Within Reach serves as a side table beside an Eames lounge chair and ottoman.

Collectibles on wood folk ladder shelving, by Norm Architects for Design Within Reach, introduce a powder room with Christian Lacroix wallpaper.

Working with designer Kate Hayes, the homeowners chose a swirling marbled wallcovering by Christian Lacroix for the powder room.

Large windows allow natural light into the Atlanta townhome. An Eames House Bird, from Design Within Reach, makes an appearance in a couple of places.

Instead of traditional tabletop accessories, such as books, the homeowners display a colorful Ekko Standing Circles Mobile designed by Matthew Richards for Design Within Reach.

Painted brick walls serve as the backdrop for the homeowners' collection of prints, watercolors and oils by American and international artists. In the main living area, the furniture includes walnut stools designed by Charles and Ray Eames and a modern Eames Storage Unit, both designed for Herman Miller. The cane-back club chair by Kipp Stewart is from Highland Row Antiques.

The renovated marble master bathroom has a walk-in shower with a soaking tub. The homeowners say the bathroom renovation, using items from the Kohler Signature Store in Buckhead, totaled about $35,000. They worked with designer Sandie Mazzi. Reann Huber/AJC FILE

The brick walls are painted white throughout the townhome, including the master bathroom. The vanity is from the Kohler Signature Store in Buckhead.

An soaking tub is surrounded by marble tile in the renovated master bathroom. The original tub sat on a rectangular platform, the homeowners said.

Mark (left) and Dave Curran, with their dog, Chelsea, purchased the 1,610-square-foot brick townhome in Castleberry Hill in 2003. Mark manages commercial real estate and Dave sells software to colleges.
