Detached garage renovated to be office and studio behind 1928 home.

The chimney and fireplace of the 1920s Candler Park home is wrapped in reclaimed barn wood from HistoricFlooring.com. Chris Erickson said he liked that it is a shiplap-type siding and was easy to install. The figures that flank the firebox are old porch balusters, which were another architectural salvage found at Lakewood 400 Antiques Market. The door is also original to the 1928 home.

The three-bedroom, two-bath house in Candler Park is 1,575 quare feet. It was built in 1928, but the Ericksons purchased it in April 2016 and renovated it over three months.

A burnt orange neighborhood plaque is a strong contrast with the exterior, which is painted Benjamin Moore Newburg Green. To prepare for the neighborhood's fall Tour of Homes, homeowner Chris Erickson renovated the porch, which included removing the screen and adding white furniture from Hayneedle.com. The detached garage was original to the house and a selling point for the Candler Park bungalow, even though it needed extensive rehabilitation.

After renovating the detached garage that once housed squirrels, the studio space became Chris Erickson's office. While many changes were made, including the new windows and reclaimed pine flooring from Authentic Pine Floors in Locust Grove, the rafters and exposed decking are original. The caged Edison bulb pendants are from the Home Depot. Erickson made his desk out of a solid core door, and sealed the old metal cabinet with lacquer. AJC FILE

The black-and-white kitchen has a mix of modern and industrial elements. The homeowners found the tractor seat barstools online. The countertop is a honed American black granite from Atlanta Kitchen. The glass front cabinet was made by Oscar Nunez of North Georgia Trimwork.

Walls were removed in the 2016 renovation to create an open floor plan and a larger kitchen. The backsplash, a Brix glazed white tile, is from Specialty Tile Products. The stainless steel appliances are from Samsung.

The enclosed back porch was added by Chris Erickson during the renovation. The gray-and-orange sofa is from Bellacor.com and matches the orange chairs from Amazon. The round glass side table is from Ikea. The flooring is Brazilian ipe wood.

Chris Erickson found a door with a stained glass window to use in the screened-in back porch.

An antique Coca-Cola sign, which Chris Erickson found in a shed he renovated 10 years ago, brings vintage appeal to a sitting area next to the new screened-in porch. The aqua Adirondack chairs are from Lowe's and pop against the home's exterior.

A guest room features bedding and curtains from West Elm and a bed frame from Ikea. The circular light fixture used to be wall mounted, but Chris Erickson created a stand to make the light portable.

Storage and stained glass were added when the master bathroom was renovated in 2016. The stained glass in the window was found on eBay, and Chris Erickson changed the frame size to make it fit. The stained glass provides privacy and a unique accent.

The master bedroom is connected to the nursery of 6-month-old Max, and the door between the rooms is original. The art above the bed and the clover-shaped mirror are from Target.
