Alex Woollcott has become a proponent of growing palms and tropical and subtropical plants in Atlanta. His passion, he says, began five years ago when he noticed a windmill palm at a house on West Paces Ferry Road. In the years since, he has added both hardy and tender palms to his landscape, along with citrus and banana trees and "plants that look tropical, but aren't."
