Lakewood Antiques Market is back!

Lakewood Antiques Market, formerly Lakewood Antiques Fair, is back. After closing doors on the southside location, the market reopens in Cumming right off Georgia 400.

If it's furniture you're hunting for, like a Victorian sofa from the 1800s, bring along measurements of the room it will occupy. And put a tape measure in your pocket so you can measure the items.

The market's food court serves breakfast until 11:30 a.m. After that, the menu changes to corn dogs, barbecued sandwiches, hoagies, funnel cakes and ice cream.

As with any shopping expedition, experts advise shoppers to start with a specific goal in mind, such as Fiesta pitchers.

This 1946 Johnson Sea Horse outboard motor is one of the rare items consumers will find. On market weekend, about 180 sellers from around the Southeast pack their goods into the 75,000-square-foot building where the event is held.

Some vendors take credit cards, but most prefer cash or checks. Bring a checkbook and identification. Delivery services are available to get big pieces home. Rates vary by distance.

Be sure to pick up a site plan. Maps are available at the Lakewood office, in the center of the building near the food court. They show the way to the eight main exhibit areas and double as notepaper to jot down the location of areas you want to revisit.

Some of the rare or unusual items at Lakewood include decorative lamps, tissue box holders and waste baskets.

If you go, have cash ready at the gate. A $3 per person admission is charged but the ticket is good for the entire three-day sale.

Shoppers wander around the Lakewood 400 Antiques Market in Cumming. The market, open the third weekend of each month, replaced the Lakewood Antiques Fair that used to take place on Atlanta's southside.
