Grant Park home is jewel of home tour

2007 Grant Park Tour of Homes, with focus on home of Bob Ward and Tony Morales.

The 1867 home of Bob Ward and Tony Morales is featured in this weekend's 2007 Grant Park Tour of Homes. Features dating back to the 19th century have been maintained, while new design has been added.

Ward designed the kitchen to work for a single cook or many working together as well as an ideal space for entertaining. Granite floors and countertops offer luxury and practicality.

A hallway connects the original house to some of the rooms that were added on in the 1930's.

Blue and white china is displayed throughout the china room.

The china room is off the dining room and butler pantry.

The dining room, added onto the house in the 1930's, features a round Italian table that seats up to fourteen people.

A guest room with a private bath is connected to the gentlemen's parlor. The room was fashioned from what was the original dining room. It continues the luxurious masculine feel of the gentleman's parlor, and features that most Southern of sleeping furniture, the rice bed.

The downstairs powder room features a patterned onyx floor, and the onyx trim is continued in the chair rail.

Today's hallway to the powder room used to be a walkway to the patio in the original structure of the home.

A fireplace with tile imported from London in the 1800s faces the entry hall. Ward is the third owner of the home that K.C. Williams built as a summer house atop a hill a half mile outside the Atlanta city limits in what is now Grant Park.

A brass horse from China is displayed in the 1867 home.

Antique chairs are featured in the ladies' parlor, allowing a woman to sit on the chair with her hoop skirt .

The ladies' parlor is entered through pocket doors with original hardware.

The gentlemen's parlor features safari skins, leather and a large television.

Handcarved woodwork is featured in the entry hall.

Coins minted in the late 1860's were given to Bob Ward by his home's previous owner at the closing of his house in 1995. The coins, along with many antiques, can be seen in the 2007 Grant Park Tour of Homes on Saturday and Sunday.

The two-acre lot, which accommodates a pool, makes it the largest residential property in Grant Park. Ward copied the plants in his grandmother's garden.
