From health clinic to home in Atlanta's Whittier Mill Village

Former health clinic in Atlanta's Whittier Mill Village neighborhood is now home to Chris and Jennifer Sizemore.

The one-story, red brick building on the edge of Atlanta's Whittier Mill Village used to be a community health center, erected by Fulton County in 1949. It had been converted to a private residence by the time Chris and Jennifer Sizemore purchased it over a year ago.

The caduceus that forms part of the porch railing was used to identify the building as a health clinic.

From the front door, guests enter the living room with a tray ceiling and large windows spanning the front wall. The couple has modernized it with a flat-screen TV, bookcases and a sectional sofa.

The kitchen has a red-and-black block linoleum floor that inspired the couple to add red to their color scheme.

Like the living room, the master bath has oversized windows.

The couple have an entertainment room in their 2,500 square foot home.

The location of the fire extinguisher is one of the vestiges from the past.

A plaque marking the property as a public building is on the front porch.

For fun, the couple has a sign leading to the powder room.

The rear of the building. Blueprints found in the home show the health facility had two waiting rooms - one for whites, another for 'coloreds.'

Chris Sizemore added two pergolas and a patio onto the rear and side of the house after they moved in about a year ago.
