East Point home rebuilt after fire to become home tour highlight

Rick Ecord and Mike Baker renovated their East Point home after a fire destroyed it in 2005. The house will be featured in the Jefferson Park Tour of Homes on May 3-4.

Maudy, a standard poodle, sits in the den of Ecord and Baker's home. A fire destroyed much of the home in 2005. Fortunately, Maudy had accompanied the pair on a mountain retreat when the fire occurred.

Ecord and Baker were away when the fire happened, but they were overwhelmed with the efforts of neighbors who came to the rescue.

Two pre-fire pieces remain in the living room. The fireplace still has the original mantle and marble. It was stripped, sanded and painted with a dark chocolate brown to complement the colors used in the living room. Opposite of the fireplace is a large mirror that was saved from the upstairs master bedroom.

The kitchen was completely renovated. Four rooms were converted into one open area containing the kitchen and dining space. Stainless steel appliances were installed along with exotic granite countertops. The shelving was installed to give the feel of a commercial kitchen.
