The Pink Pig, a children's holiday tradition for a half-century, is taking new passengers for 2013 starting the weekend of Nov 2.
OPENING DAY
With a ceremonial ribbon-cutting at 10 a.m., the ride opens Saturday, Nov. 2.
HOURS AND DATES
The 2013 ride officially will remain open through Sunday, January 5, 2014. The ride is closed Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day. You can check for schedule updates at www.macys.com/pinkpig.
COST
Each ride costs $3 and repeat rides have a special discounted price (2 rides for $5.50, 3 rides for $7.50).
GETTING THERE
The ride is located in the Buckhead area of Atlanta at Lenox Square Mall, on the upper-level parking deck near Macy's. Address: 3393 Peachtree Road NE, Atlanta, GA 30326. MARTA has two rail stations within walking distance of Lenox Square.
THE SETTING
A lot of pink and a strong Atlanta tradition. Priscilla the Pink Pig leads a pink train on track beneath a 170-foot, 1950's themed Pink Pig Tent. The ride carries children and parents through a life-sized storybook that includes the original Pink Pig and other holiday friends. THE BACK STORY
The Macy’s Pink Pig has been a beloved Atlanta tradition for more than 50 years. From its debut in the 1950s as a children’s ride at the downtown Rich’s department store, to its brief stint at the Egleston Children’s Hospital Festival of Trees, countless young Atlantans have ridden the Pink Pig.
DONATIONS FROM THE RIDE
Macy's donates a portion of the proceeds from each ride to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta.
