Halloween costumes: TV and movie characters

Dress up as your favorite TV or movie character this Halloween.

IRON MAN: Okay, so it's doubtful your Iron Man costume will be this cool. (A fan custom-molded this creation.) The good news is that the comic book character from the hit movie is so popular that you can find pre-made costumes everywhere, in sizes ranging from toddlers to adults.

SNOOKI: It's not that hard to dress up as the love-to-hate personality from the hit reality show, "Jersey Shore." Find a dress a few sizes too small for you, and accessorize with a wig to mimic Snooki's trademark "poof." Speaking with a Jersey accent and being totally obnoxious will complete the look.

OLD SPICE GUY: This is the easiest of all celebrity costumes to pull off. Guys, grab a towel, wrap around the midriff and carry around an Old Spice product. Of course, it helps if you have the rock-hard abs and deep, sexy voice of spokesman Isaiah Mustafa.

ALICE IN WONDERLAND: The 2010 film by Tim Burton has made the characters from the surreal tale a popular choice this Halloween. Alice can be made nice or naughty and can be designed for girls or women. There are many variations, but start with a blue dress with white apron and plenty of ruffles. White stockings and black shoes complete the look.

Here's a great costume idea for this year. Go as Antoine Dodson, who has become one of the year's biggest Internet sensations after being interviewed by a Huntsville, Ala. TV station, warning the community about a man who broke into their home and tried to assault his sister. Belt out the "Bed Intruder Song" for extra points.

DEXTER: Everyone's favorite TV serial killer is pretty simple to portray for Halloween. A rubber apron and boots over scrubs would do the trick, and of course, don't forget the knife, blood and homicidal tendencies (all fake, of course.)

LINDSAY LOHAN: The troubled starlet that's been in and out of jail this year is such a popular Halloween costume choice that a company has created a kit, complete with fake mini liquor bottle and fake drugs. Lohan has had many looks over the years, so hair color and makeup are not that important. Dress up in your most fashionable club threads, act inebriated (falling down earns extra points). Don't forget the "manicure with a message."

JOAN JETT: If you found the rock-and-roll biopic "The Runaways" inspiring, then rock out this Halloween as Joan Jett. Grab some leather pants (vinyl will do for those on a budget). The color scheme is simple, all black. If you don't already sport tattoos, apply a couple of temporary ones. Cocky swagger and singing ability are optional, but appreciated.
