Some we saw coming, some were more shocking, but either way we were sad to see these stars part ways in 2011. Ashton Kutcher and Demi Moore -- Their 15-year age difference was the punch line of many a joke during their six-year marriage, but they seemed to want to make it work. Moore filed for divorce on Nov. 17. "As a woman, a mother and a wife there are certain values and vows that I hold sacred, and it is in this spirit that I have chosen to move forward with my life," she said.

Zooey Deschanel and Ben Gibbard -- "New Girl" actress Zooey Deschanel and Death Cab for Cutie singer Ben Gibbard announced they were splitting on Nov. 1. Commence hipster hearts everywhere breaking.

Melissa Gilbert and Bruce Boxleitner -- The "Little House on the Prairie" star and the "Babylon 5" actor filed for divorce on Aug. 22 after 16 years and one son together.

Ryan Reynolds and Scarlett Johansson -- Is it possible that two people are just too good-looking to stay together? Perhaps that was the case for these two actors, whose divorce was finalized in July.

Olivia Wilde and Tao Ruspoli -- The "House" actress and her Italian prince husband filed for divorce in March after eight years together.

George and Ann Lopez -- The comedian's divorce from his wife of 17 years was finalized in 2011. Ann donated one of her kidneys to George in 2005 after he got sick.

Daniel and Joanne Baldwin -- The "Homicide: Life on the Street" actor (and brother of Alec) filed for divorce from his wife of four years in July after she reportedly threatened him with a knife. They have two daughters.

Mark-Paul Gosselaar and Lisa Ann Russell -- They both had two first names, but that does not a happy marriage make. The "Franklin & Bash" and "Saved By the Bell" star finalized his divorce from his actress wife of 15 years in May. They have a son and a daughter together.

Jack White and Karen Elson -- It wasn't eternal wedded bliss for the White Stripes/Raconteurs frontman and the former model. The couple -- who have two children -- split in 2011 after six years, and celebrated with a divorce party.

Elizabeth Hurley and Arun Nayar -- The model/actress and the Indian businessman tied the knot in 2007, only to untie it in 2011.

Pete Wentz and Ashley Simpson -- The Fall Out Boy rocker and the solo singer filed for divorce in February after nearly three years together. They have a son, Bronx.

Christopher Knight and Adrianne Curry -- The May-December couple -- he's 54, she's 29 -- met on VH1's reality show "The Surreal Life" after achieving B-list status on "The Brady Bunch" and "America's Next Top Model," respectively. They were married for five years before announcing their separation in May.

Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony -- After denying rumors of a split for most of their seven-year marriage, the singer/actors finally called it quits in July. They are parents to twins Max and Emme.

Kelsey and Camille Grammer -- The actor and the "Real Housewives of Beverly Hills" reality star filed for divorce in 2010, but the split wasn't finalized until February 2011. They were married for 14 years and had two children. Grammar remarried in 2011, to former flight attendant Kayte Walsh.

Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver -- They had their differences -- he was a bodybuilding Republican-turned-California governor from Austria, she was a TV journalist and member of the Kennedy clan -- but they made it work for 25 years and four children before splitting after Schwarzenegger's affair with a nanny -- and his child with her -- came to light.

John Mellencamp and Elaine Hudson Mellencamp -- The rocker and the model separated in 2010, and their divorce was finalized on Aug. 12. The pair was married for 18 years and had two sons. John Mellencamp is reportedly dating actress Meg Ryan.

Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries -- The pro basketball player and the E! reality TV star rushed to the altar after dating for several months -- then rushed to divorce court on Oct. 31, after 72 days of marriage.

Deion Sanders and his wife of 12 years Pilar Biggers-Sanders revealed their plans for divorce in a statement to TMZ in December. The couple, who have three children together, gave the impression that the split was amicable -- at least if you believe the official statement. The Pro Football Hall of Famer said of the breakup, "Pilar and I have decided to end our marriage and move on to the next phase of our individual lives with mutual respect."

"Will & Grace" star Debra Messing and her husband, Daniel Zelman, called it quits after more than a decade of marriage, according to her publicist. The couple has one child, Roman, 7.

In December, Jessica Lange and Sam Shepard officially announced their separation after nearly 30 years together, though their publicist confirmed that the couple concluded their relationship almost two years ago. They have two grown children together.

In December Kobe Bryant and wife Vanessa announced they had filed for divorce after 10 years of marriage, citing "irreconcilable differences." We'll see how the split plays out, but it could get costly for the L.A. Laker. Vanessa's mother told the L.A. Times her daughter did not sign a prenuptial agreement.
