I love to entertain. Having friends and family over for casual get-togethers is always a lot of fun. My favorite part of entertaining is — as you might have guessed — decorating. It’s so satisfying to make simple decor projects from what I already have around my house or in my garden. Since I had a big stash of flea market frames in my closet, I thought they could be turned into charming serving trays to use for desserts, crackers, cheese and more. Simply customize them with lovely patterned fabrics or papers and you’ll have festive and functional serving trays for your party.
Gather:
Picture frames of varying sizes
Patterned fabric or paper (I used fabric from my holiday collection, “Love & Joy” for FreeSpirit fabrics)
Scissors
Paintbrush
Gold acrylic paint
Create:
1. Take the glass out of your frames. At this point you can decide if you want to paint your frames or leave them the way they are. I spray painted my frames gold for a festive holiday look.
2. Trace the glass onto your fabric or paper to determine the size you will need for each frame.
3. Cut out your fabric or paper and place in the frame just like you would a picture.
This is the perfect project for the holidays, but it can easily be switched out according to any occasion. You can get really daring and draw or paint one yourself for a customized serving tray.
