One person has died and 13 people have potentially been exposed to a rare and fatal brain disease in a New Hampshire hospital.

"It is believed the patients were operated on with the same rented infected equipment in New Hampshire. It is called C.J.D. And it is similar to mad cow disease." (Via Fox News)

According to officials with the hospital, there is no treatment nor cure for the disease and standard hospital sterilization doesn’t kill C.J.D.

NBC reports the hospital considers the risks to the individuals extremely low but a spokesperson for the hospital said,

“We could not conclude that there was no risk. ... Our sympathies are with all of the patients and their families, as this may be a confusing and difficult situation”

The president of the Catholic medical center said there have only been four cases in the world’s literature of a transfer like this.
