Whether you're sick or just need a checkup, it can be inconvenient to go to the doctor. Especially if you're not feeling well, you may not want to navigate traffic and flip through old magazines in the waiting room while surrounded by other sick people. And if you have mobility issues, getting out could be difficult.

A few options are available that will let you get health care in Atlanta without leaving your home. Try the following, and you can avoid the hassles while getting the care you need:

Doctors who make house calls

Some doctors still make traditional house calls, although in some cases, you'll need to join a concierge medicine program in order to utilize this service. The following are some of the Atlanta-area doctors who make house calls:

Priority Pediatrics PC

 6300 Powers Ferry Road, Suite 600, Atlanta. 404-654-0426. priority-pediatrics.com.

Priority Pediatrics offers house calls as a part of their concierge service. You'll pay an annual fee for services that your health insurance doesn't cover, and you'll also pay for the medical services provided.

Buckhead Concierge Internal Medicine

 91 W. Wieuca Road NE, Building A, Suite 1000. Atlanta. 404-257-5585. bcimonline.com.

Telemedicine sessions are available for concierge and non-concierge patients, although the latter will pay more. House calls are also available.

Resurgia Health Solutions

 1100 Peachtree St. NE, Suite 200, Atlanta. 404-445-5304. resurgia.com.

Resurgia provides house calls for minor medical problems as well as for more complex, ongoing issues. Clinicians are board-certified and have experience in urgent, chronic, geriatric, palliative, post-operative and other specialized types of care. The company offers house calls throughout the metro Atlanta area, including in Cobb, Dekalb, Fulton and Gwinnett counties.

There's an app for that

Several different apps allow you to access health care by using your smartphone, laptop or another device. They're not intended to be used for emergencies, of course, but they're often appropriate for a wide range of health-related issues.

GoMed

 2011 Commerce Drive, Suite 25, Peachtree City. 678-672-2220. gomed.net.

GoMed has a staff of health-care professionals that includes nurse practitioners and physician's assistants who make house calls, and they're available seven days a week from 6 a.m.-11 p.m. They serve parts of Gwinnett County, as well as Coweta and Fayette counties.

Doctor on Demand

This app allows you to have a video chat with a doctor at a cost of $49 for 15 minutes. Regular medical, pediatric and mental health care is available from doctors in Georgia (as well as every other state except Alaska and Arkansas). Doctors can prescribe many medications, but don't prescribe muscle relaxants or narcotics. If you'd like to extend the visit, you'll be billed an additional $49 for each additional 15 minutes.

MDLive

MDLive is offered as a part of some health insurance policies. If you're not covered, you can still access the app for $49 per appointment. Board-certified doctors are available in Georgia, as well as other states.
