7 fun fall 5K races in metro Atlanta

Fall is near! As the weather cools, the days grow shorter and menus burst with pumpkin-flavored everything, Atlanta's fun run schedule really heats up.

Grab a few friends and register for a fun themed 5K race this fall. You'll get some exercise and have some fun while dodging zombies, running with superheroes or dashing toward the finish line for bacon or beer.

Muddy Brute Challenge, Tallapoosa, September 12

It's a touch over 5K, at just under 5 miles – but it's a lot of muddy fun. The Muddy Brute Challenge is a mud run that packs more than 30 beginner-friendly obstacles into the course, offering challenges mile after mud-filled mile. Run solo, or create a team to test your teamwork and help you power through the course.

The Color Run Night, Hampton, September 19

The Color Run takes to the night. You'll join masses of runners to light up the night with glowing t-shirts, black light headlamps and glow-in-the dark tattoos. After crossing the finish line, join the glowing dance party and watch glowing color shows that light up the night.

WIPEOUTRUN, Hampton, October 3

You'll dodge and weave through obstacles on this course themed after the reality TV show "Wipeout". The WIPEOUTRUN is an untimed event, focusing on fun on an 5K obstacle course at the Atlanta Motor Speedway.

The Bacon Run 5K, Marietta, October 10

Run a bacon-themed, chip-timed 5K run. Enter a bacon costume contest. Eat tons of bacon and bacon-flavored treats. Yum ... need we say more?

Oktoberfest Run 5K, Atlanta, October 10

It's not fall without Oktoberfest! Run the German-American Cultural Foundation's Oktoberfest 5K, and then score an award in the Oktoberfest costume contest in Der Biergarten. After the race, enjoy some German culture with refreshments, a German buffet and beer in a take home stein.

Superheroes vs. Villains 5K, Marietta, October 10

Dress up as your favorite superhero or villain for this action packed, family friendly 5K. After the finish line, enjoy the free Superhero Super Block Party with food, music, bouncy houses, face painting and a petting zoo.

Zombie Run, Perry, October 24

Test your skill and speed as you try to escape the zombie apocalypse on this 5K obstacle course. The course runs through The Guardian Centers, an epic disaster preparedness facility and training ground for first responders, where you'll navigate challenging obstacles and hordes of flesh eating zombies!
