When the weather starts to cool off this fall, it's the perfect time to lace up your shoes and run one of the many 5k races in Cobb County. Have some fun while challenging yourself at the following races in Cobb this fall:
Red Hare 5k, Marietta, Sept. 24
The single-loop race starts and ends at Red Hare Brewing, and all participants will receive a custom Red Hare 5K pint glass, a goody bag and lunch. If you're over 21 and want to sample some of the brewery's selections, those will also be offered to racers, and if you're underage or aren't drinking, you can cool off with a craft root beer. Live music adds to the festive atmosphere, and part of the proceeds from the race go to Trees Atlanta.
Great Locomotive Chase 5K, Kennesaw, Oct. 1
Part of the Kennesaw Grand Prix series, the Great Locomotive Chase 5k takes you through downtown Kennesaw on a course that's mostly flat. It's ideal for competitive runners, since it's professionally timed and certified, but it also offers a fun atmosphere that will appeal to beginners and families. Winners in several categories will receive a cash award, and part of the proceeds from the race benefit The Southern Museum.
Glow the Mall Pink 5k, Kennesaw, Oct. 8
Roads around the Town Center mall will be closed for the race, which starts at 11:55 p.m. The virtual pink out will include pink lights and glow necklaces, and you can stay after the race and enjoy music and dancing. You'll also be able to take some pink home with a shirt and glow necklace. A portion of the proceeds will go to local breast cancer support charities.
The Bacon Run, Marietta, Oct. 8
Who doesn't love bacon? You'll find plenty of it at this 5k, with bacon-flavored treats galore. The race is held at Jim Miller Park in Marietta, and finishers will receive a Bacon Run T-shirt. Stick around to enjoy the after-party and music as you celebrate the awesomeness of bacon. Part of the proceeds go to charities that rescue children from human trafficking.
Habitat Road Race, 5K/Mile/Tot Trot, Marietta, Oct. 8
This is the 23rd year for the Habitat Road Race, which is held at Mt. Bethel United Methodist Church. All proceeds will be used to fund the church's 36th Habitat for Humanity home, and runners will receive a T-shirt. A silent auction will also take place, and runners can enjoy live music and a bounce house for kids after the race.
Ken 'Ya Run 5k/1k, Powder Springs, Nov. 19
The inaugural Ken 'Ya Run will wind through part of the Still Family Farm, which is situated on 149 acres. Take a break from pounding the pavement as you run through farmland and woods, with flat terrain and some hills along the way.
