Atlanta 2-Day Walk for Breast Cancer

Thousands descended upon Centennial Olympic Park on Saturday and Sunday to participate in the Atlanta 2-Day Walk for Breast Cancer. Now in its fifth year, the event raised $1.5 million for local breast cancer research and education programs. Breast Cancer Awareness Month begins October 1.

Day 1 The Atlanta 2- day Walk for Breast Cancer Awareness kicks off with a ceremonial torch lighting in Centennial Park, led by event founder Randi Passoff (right).

Day 1 Circle of Friends member Diane Turner of Dahlonega captured scenes from the walk, including signs of encouragement spread along the route.

Day 1 Atlanta 2-Day participant Diane Turner captured several scenes from the event, which drew about 1,200 walkers.

Day 1 After a 20-mile walk, event participant Diane Turner captured folks enjoying a much-needed lunch break on the Governor's lawn.

Day 2 Stephanie Manns of Lithonia, a member of the Brest Stop team, greets walkers they cross the finish line.

Day 2 At the finish line, Circle of Friends team member Jeannie Evans of Dahlonega gets a hug from Joannie Witt, an 11-year cancer survivor from Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.

Day 2 Troy Jessop of Marietta was one of several male volunteers on hand to lend their support.

Day 2 Sunday was filled with emotion as Lyn Sewell of the Parrot Heads group cheers at the finish line.

Day 2 Circle of Friends teammates greet Diane Turner as she crosses the finish line on Sunday. Her team raised about $65,000 for the event this year.

Day 2 As family members cheer, Diane Guggenheim of Alpharetta crosses the the finish line of the Atlanta 2-Day. About 1,200 walked in the event this year.

Day 2 Sherry Lazzaro sits front and center during closing ceremonies of the Atlanta 2-Day. This is the fifth anniversary for the event, which raised $1.5 million for the Atlanta research and education programs.
