Group seeks submissions from middle school girls for art along PATH400

Looking to hold "art class" at home? A local group is looking for submissions from middle schools girls in metro Atlanta, which will be turned into murals along PATH400.

Livable Buckhead, along with local Girl Scout Katie Maier, have partnered to sponsor the art contest among girls in sixth, seventh and eighth grade.

“This contest is all about creativity, girl power, and how walking paths lead us to the beauty of the great outdoors,” according to the contest website. “We are looking for original artwork that features plants and animals native to Georgia.”

Young artists interested in participating must submit their entries by March 29.

Here are a few guidelines to keep in mind: Artwork should feature birds and plants native to Georgia. The submissions should also be simple enough to transfer to large-scale murals.

Five winning designs will be replicated on the columns along the path.

Though smaller in scale than the Beltline, PATH400 builds on the same idea of putting idle land to use.

PATH400 will be 5.2 miles long when Livable Buckhead Inc. and the PATH Foundation add a final stretch to Loridans Drive in coming years.

Only one submission per person is allowed in the art contest. All entries should be uploaded as PDFs, along with a completed application.
