Sushi has become a popular dish and it’s not uncommon for friends to grab the Japanese dish for lunch. But instead of buying it on your next outing, why not learn how to make it yourself?

Feeling Kinda Snackish, a theme-based cooking consulting company, is hosting a sushi-making class in Lawrenceville in March.

For $45 each, guests can grab their pals and head to the Sweet Joy Ice Cream Bar on East Crogan Street to learn how to craft the centuries old dish.

"Students will learn the art of Sushi and the history behind it. Students will accomplish preparing three different sushi rolls during class," the Facebook event description reads. Students will learn how to make popular sushi like the California roll, which is filled with rice, crab and avocado and the Philadelphia roll, which contains rice, cream cheese, smoked salmon and cucumbers. There's also a specialty bonus roll on tap for students to learn to make.

But the Chef Hugo-instructed class isn't all about sushi. Students can partake in a sake tasting session during an intermission. Sake is a traditional Japanese rice beverage that although Americans typically pair with sushi, is not typically served with the dish in Japan.

That fact isn’t likely to detract from the fun in this class, however. Feeling Kinda Snackish tells guests that “a lot of fun is packed into this sushi class and for the price you cant beat it! So come get your roll on.”

Feeling Kinda Snackish was founded by Kellie “Kelz” James after her adoration of food and cooking led her to launch a food blog. Feeling Kinda Snackish also began as a vending machine business that serviced gyms, but James ultimately got the chance to host a cooking event, which launched the hands-on classes she hosts today.
