With just a few keystrokes, Georgians can help the state’s nonprofits by donating on Georgia Gives Day, which will be held on Thursday.

Organizers hope the third annual day of giving will not only increase money, but the number of donors, thus raising awareness about the wide variety of nonprofits in the state, services offered and the importance of giving.

Last year, the 24-hour event project of the Georgia Center for Nonprofits, nearly 13,000 people raised $1.6 million. This year, said Karen Beavor, president and CEO , organizers hope that 15,000 people will help raise an even greater amount.

In 2013, the average gift was $75, with some people donating $1 and others substantially more.

The projects helps nonprofits that might not ordinarily have the resources to launch fundraising campaigns, said Beavor.

“You live your life with nonprofits,” she said. “Some do their work behind the scenes, that most people never see.” Others , such as nonprofit hospitals, may be more visible.
