The Illinois-based Small Town Brewery proved it has a sense of humor and a nostalgic streak when it debuted its first Its Not Your Father’s line of classic soda-inspired craft beers.

Alcoholic root beer came on the market in March 2015, followed by ginger ale in November of that year. They soon became national best-sellers.

The new bottle on the block is Not Your Father’s Vanilla Cream Ale, flavored with spices and Madagascar vanilla (4.1 percent alcohol by volume). We iced it down and poured it into frozen chalices. Hmm. Smooth, a bit sweet, with a pleasant finish, though we prefer the root beer.

Find six-packs of Not Your Father’s brews for $11 at many area markets and stores. Also served in restaurants and bars.
