Citizens & Southern Bank, 35 Broad St. NW, Morgan and Dillon, Architect, 1901, National Register Property, UCD Property.
As it stands today, the Citizen's and Southern Bank Building is a reflection of the creative minds of two of Atlanta's most respected architectural firms. One of the earliest steel-frame office buildings in the city, it was designed in 1901 by Morgan and Dillon and known originally as the Empire Building.
In the last 1920's the structure underwent a major remodeling. The lower three floors were redisigned in the Second Renaissance Revival style under the direction of the architectural firm of Hentz, Adler and Shutze. The new design features a heavy base of rusticated stone with two-story arched entries and windows.The building's monumental-size 'Great Banking Hall' was planned by Philip T. Shutze, and has been acclaimed as the finest commercial interior in the city.

May 12, 1989 - Atlanta, Ga: Traffic was flowing much smoother on the Downtown Connector at 7:30am today after the Department of Transportation opened the last phase of the freeway widening project. Drivers now have five lanes in each director, instead of three, on the 8-mile connector. The completion of a major part of the 'free the freeways' project eased long frustration.

Aug. 24, 1989 - Atlanta, Ga.: International Olympic Committee members and their party meet Thursday with Mayor Andrew Young in his office. It was a non-confrontational first meeting here in the city's Olympic bid.

Dec. 27, 1989 - Atlanta, GA -- Peachtree St at Ralph McGill Boulevard. The historic building housing the Imperial Hotel is contrasted against the modern citiscape of Atlanta.
