Head out to the annual Wellness Day and 5k in South Cobb and Austell on Saturday, Sept. 17 if you're looking for something to do this weekend that will provide some healthy family fun. This free family event is designed to promote the importance of wellness by focusing on eight different dimensions: connect, revive, refresh, thrive, belong, play, grow and learn.

The 5k will begin at 8 a.m. from the James Plaza staging area at 2723 Jefferson Street in Austell, wind through shaded streets and past vintage homes, and finish on the paved natural trail at Louise Suggs Park.

The Wellness Event will be held from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. at the Collar Park and Community Center, 2625 Joe Jerkins Blvd., Austell. The fun includes interactive activities such as games, tennis and basketball clinics, giveaways, health screenings, food, entertainment and more.

Participants in the annual Wellness Day and 5k are also encouraged to take a Wellness Pledge online by committing to empower people who are in recovery, promote the eight dimensions of wellness, recognize and reward providers and support other health-related activities.
