A: Jewell, I found this vivid red-orange imitation flavoring sold through a church, beauty salon and a produce store, but the most unusual place I located it was at JP’s Fashions, 1173 E. Main St., Royston, 706-245-8793. This clothing store is about an hour away from you, so I’m glad you’re willing to drive. JP’s stocks a wide variety of Happy Home flavorings, and you can buy a 7-ounce bottle of the butter-and-nut for $3. And if you ever find yourself in a baking frenzy, the flavoring also is available through www.southernflavoring.com, where a gallon of Happy Home will set you back $19, not including shipping.
Q: I have attempted to locate L’Oreal Le Kohl smooth eyeliner pencil in Cafe, but cannot find it online or anywhere else. I’ve tried other eyeliner pencils, including L’Oreal products, but none of them work like this one. Hopefully, you can help me. Thank you. — Diana Schuyler, Canton
A: Even on websites that sell overstocked and discontinued cosmetics, this L’Oreal eyeliner pencil has pretty much disappeared. However, there are a few left at amazon.com. They come two per pack and sell at a premium — each pack costs $29.85. Your best bet might be to grab what you can, then hope that you find another you like as well before you run out. I’ve been buying and stashing my favorite lipstick color for years because I know it’s only a matter of time before it hits the discontinued pile. When that happens, I’ll be prepared.

A: Joan, while you’re mixing your kraut juice with V8, other folks are using the fermented cabbage beverage as a health benefit that runs the gamut from treating canker sores to aiding in digestion. However, the French have them all beat. They’re now using sauerkraut juice, once thought of as a waste product, to power a local water treatment plant. It seems that the kraut juice is used to produce bio gas. Locally, you can pick up 14-ounce cans of Frank’s kraut juice for $2.36 each at Ingles, 3701 Walt Stephens Road, Stockbridge, 770-507-1230. You’ll find it on the top shelf of aisle 3, just above the sauerkraut.
