News flash: Atlanta's little beauty is turning into a big boy. Mei Lan is muy large. Zoo Atlanta's onetime baby panda cub is about to be weaned from mama Lun Lun. The tiny bear that once held tightly to his mother while nursing spends more time these days crunching on bamboo, the food of choice for all grownup Ailuropoda melanoleuca.

Zoo Atlanta's onetime baby panda cub was recently weaned from mama Lun Lun (right). The cub weighs at least 75 pounds and easily exceeds 2 feet in length, said Rebecca Snyder, the zoo's curator of giant panda research and management.
