Frog baby boom

The Atlanta Botanical Garden is experiencing a rare frog baby boom.

The Blue Poison Dart Frog is found in Suriname. It takes its species name, dendrobates azureus, from its azure coloration. The "poison dart" group is so-called because natives of South American used toxins from the frog's skin on darts when hunting.

The entrance to the room where the frogs live at the Atlanta Botanical Garden. The Botanical Garden is in the middle of a baby boom, and couldn't be more pleased. This is the Year of the Frog, when scientists across the globe are urging governments to help reverse the collapse of amphibious populations.

Asia). The Botanical Garden has one of the largest collections of caecilians, amphibians that superficially resemble earthworms or snakes.

A lemur leaf frog as seen from underneath a leaf at Atlanta Botanical Garden. This beautiful little species is one of the most interesting frogs of Costa Rica. It is easily distinguished by lacking webbing on its hands and feet.

The Black-legged Dart Frog, also known as the bicolored dart frog, is the second most toxic of the wild poison dart frogs. This species obtained its name due to its normally yellow or orange body with black or dark blue hindlegs and forelimbs below the elbow. It lives in the lowland forests of western Colombia.

A red-eye leaf frog tadpole. The species hails come from Central America and adults vary in size from 1 to 1.5 inches in length. They are beautifully colored light green, red or orange, cream white and blue leg markings.

The Amazon Milk Frog is a large species of arboreal frog native to the rainforests of South America. They are fairly large frogs, attaining sizes of 2.5 to 4 inches in length. They are light grey in color with brown or black banding. As juveniles their patterning is much more contrasting and fades some as they age. Their skin has a slightly bumpy texture to it.

The Gopher Frog is a species of frog in the Ranidae family. It is endemic to the Southeastern United States. It primarily inhabits the threatened sandhill communities, pine flatwoods, and scrub in the Atlantic coastal plain, where it is usually found near ponds.
