Druid Hills Presbyterian Church celebrates 125 years

A stained glass window at the church. The church began as Fourth Presbyterian in 1883 in downtown Atlanta. The congregation changed its name with the move to Druid Hills in the 1920s. It's now located near the intersection of Ponce de Leon and Highland avenues.

While the church's membership is down from its peak in the 1940s and 50s, it has survived as its surroundings have changed. It's overcome neighborhood demolition, caused by a defunct interstate road project and seen its neighborhood transition from working-class to upscale.

Archie and Cecile Hooks are long-time members of the church.

The church features Willet Studio stained-glass windows, Gothic arches and an Aeolian Skinner organ, one of the few in Atlanta.

Druid Hills Presbyterian Church will celebrate its 125th anniversary on Sunday.

The church supports multiple missions, including a homeless shelter for men, a project housing refugee families and a child care center for young families. The Presbytery of Greater Atlanta is also on the church's campus.
