CNN anchor Betty Nguyen and her mother started their own nonprofit organization, Help the Hungry, which provides aid to the people of Vietnam.

Each year, CNN anchor Betty Nguyen takes the donations to Help the Hungry, travels back to Vietnam and buys five or six tons of food, medicines and clothes on the local market.

CNN anchor Betty Nguyen recently returned to the land of her birth, Vietnam. She had not been back since 1975, when her parents fled the Communist takeover.

CNN anchor Betty Nguyen is based in the network's headquarters in Atlanta. Nguyen is also the co-founder of Help the Hungry, a nonprofit organization providing humanitarian relief to the people of Vietnam.

"I would look at the faces, would look at the people about my age, and I would think, 'Wow, that could be me.' Except for the grace of God that I was able to come to this country," CNN anchor Betty Nguyen says of one trip to Vietnam.
