Rabbi Joseph Polak, author of “After the Holocaust the Bells Still Ring”, will be the keynote speaker during the Yom HaShoah event Sunday at the Marcus Jewish Community Center of Atlanta.

His book is a memoir about how he and his mother survived two concentration camps and later reclaimed their lives.

Polak will discuss and sign copies of his book during Yom HaShoah (the Day of Holocaust Remembrance) from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Sunday at the Besser Holocaust Memorial Garden. The garden is located on the campus of the Marcus Jewish Community Center of Atlanta, 5342 Tilly Mill Rd. in Dunwoody.

The free event will be held rain or shine.

Other highlights include a remembrance of Holocaust victims with readings and memorial prayers and the lighting of six torches.

Holocaust Survivor Abe Besser and his wife, Marlene Gelertner Besser, built the memorial to commemorate that period and to serve as a teaching mechanism to remind and educate on what hatred and indifference can do.
