Brandon Waters and Ashley Patterson Waters were dining in downtown Norcross one day and chatted about how it was a quaint area to possibly buy a home.
“About three months later we started looking into houses,” Ashley said.
They put Norcross on their list of potential spots to purchase, along with Tucker, where Ashley works for Soliant Health. Ashley, who had her condo on the market, and Brandon, who works for Mascot Pecan Shelling Co., wanted to buy a house before their June 2014 wedding. Working with Blair Branch Huckeba of Dorsey Alston Realtors, they considered these properties.
No. 1
Updated near golf course
A four-bedroom, two-and-a-half bath home on Royal Oak Court in Tucker was close enough to walk to Heritage Golf Course and Lucky Shoals Park. The sellers had updated the kitchen, bathrooms and master suite, which had a custom closet along with the closets in a guest room and bonus room. Outdoor space included a deck and screened porch. The home, built in 1983 in the Smoketree neighborhood, was listed for $269,900.

Walking distance to downtown Norcross
A four-bedroom, two-and-a-half bath home on Georgetown Park Drive had a location that appealed to them, near downtown Norcross restaurants and shops. The deck and cabana also wowed them. “I immediately could see us out there,” Ashley said. The hardwood floors, glass shower in the master and farmhouse-style sink in the kitchen also were selling features, but the home already had an offer. The Norcross home, built in 1999, was listed for $300,000.

Traditional two-story
A four-bedroom, two-and-a-half bath home, also on Royal Oak Court in Tucker, had been updated with granite countertops, but other changes were needed. There was a wet bar and rec room in the basement. Charming details included built-ins and a brick fireplace in the family room. The home, built in 1981 in the Smoketree neighborhood, was priced for $268,000.
The Choice
No. 2. The couple placed a higher offer on the Norcross house and wrote a letter to the sellers sharing why they loved the house. Their offer was accepted, and they closed on the home in May, just a month before their wedding. Two favorite items they’ve purchased for the home are the master bedroom set and a hutch made out of reclaimed wood from Asia, from Underpriced Furniture, also in Norcross.
