History: In 2001 Eslene Richmond-Shockley set out to help people who needed food, clothing, and support so they could get back on their feet. Nearly 20 years later, the nonprofit she started, Caring for Others, has expanded to support people living in 20 metropolitan Atlanta area ZIP codes as well as other people around the globe.

Did you know: Caring for Others offers an array of services, including emergency financial assistance with rent or mortgage payments and utility bills. During COVID-19, its doors have remained open and senior citizens have been provided with food and cleaning supplies. Mothers with babies have been given diapers and wipes, and children have received laptop computers to do school work. The nonprofit owns and operates the Care Loft, a hidden treasure of name-brand clothes and designer shoes.

How you can help: Caring for Others is sustained through its network of partnerships with local businesses, government agencies, community organizations, and volunteers. Volunteers can participate as individuals or groups by registering online to sort clothes, distribute food, support fundraising events or give a financial donation.
