The Atlanta Youth Wind Symphony will perform a free concert 4 p.m. Dec. 13 at Lassiter High School in Marietta.

The symphony, under the direction of conductor and music director Scott Stewart, will pay tribute to some of the landmark pieces of wind band literature and established composers who brought the possibilities of the wind ensemble to the world’s attention.

The Sunday afternoon concert will feature a variety of wind band classics, including Grainger’s In a Nutshell Suite, Reed’s Armenian Dances, David Maslanka’s Mother Earth, Vaughan Williams’ Rhosymedre, and Gould’s West Point Symphony.

While the Atlanta Youth Wind Symphony prides itself on commissioning new works and performing music by living composers, officials said that this program reflects the ensemble's commitment to also honoring the rich tradition of compositions for concert band and wind ensemble from centuries past.
