Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms will deliver the fall convocation at Emory University’s Candler School of Theology on Aug. 30.

The event, which begins at 11:05 a.m., is closed to the public, but will be livestreamed.

The convocation in Cannon Chapel opens the 2018-2019 academic year.

An Atlanta native, Bottoms is the city’s 60th mayor and the second woman to hold that office.

She earned degrees  from Florida A&M University and Georgia State University’s College of Law. Prior to becoming mayor in January 2018, Bottoms served as a lawyer, judge, city councilmember, and executive director of the Atlanta-Fulton County Recreation Authority .
