Actress Brenda Bynum will read the “Passion of Christ” at the upcoming Southern Folk Passion service on Sunday at Druid Hills Baptist Church.

The program begins at 4 p.m. at the church, 1085 Ponce de Leon Ave.

Although there is not cost to attend, there will be a free-will offering taken during the service.

Southern Folk Passion interweaves southern folk hymns with the Gospel and is modeled on historic musical Passion settings similar to those of J.S. Bach.

Conductor and folk music scholar Steven Darsey will lead the Meridian Chorale and the congregation in folk hymns from Georgia’s famous 19th century tunebook, The Sacred Harp.

The tunes from The Sacred Harp, some of which were featured in the major motion picture Cold Mountain, will be sung by the Meridian Chorale and its soloists.
