In a recent interview with PEOPLE, “Let’s Make a Deal” host Wayne Brady revealed that he’s Pansexual.
“In doing my research, both with myself and just with the world, I couldn’t say if I was bisexual because I had to really see what that was, especially because I really have not gotten a chance to act on anything,” he told the magazine.
Brady said his pansexuality is a place of acceptance. “I love all people equally, and now that includes myself.”
While Brady, 51, is coming to understand himself better, many are unfamiliar with the term pansexual. Even Webster’s definition of pansexuality is a little confusing.
“To me, pan means being able to be attracted to anyone who identifies as gay, straight, bi, transsexual, or non-binary—being able to be attracted across the board. And, I think, at least for me for right now, that is the proper place,” Brady explained.
Brady’s ex-wife Mandie Taketa was the first person he came out to. “I just said, ‘Great.’ As I knew coming out would help him be happier,” Taketa recalled.
Brady’s path to coming out started in 2014 when Robin Williams died. According to Brady, the death set him on a “path of self-discovery.” The “Whose Line Is It Anyway” alum shared that the moment led him to wonder, “What do I have to do to function in this big world and still be okay with myself and, more importantly, to love myself so that I don’t hurt myself?”
Brady has a full house these days, sharing life with his 20-year-old daughter Maile, his ex-wife Mandie Taketa and her partner Jason Fordham, and their new 2-year-old baby. The blended family is recording a reality series set to premiere on Hulu in 2024.
