For a limited time, Krispy Kreme is offering double the sweetness to vaccinated customers.
Beginning Monday, Aug. 30, customers who show their COVID-19 vaccination record card will get two free doughnuts. The offer includes the same one that launched in March — an original glazed doughnut — and an original glazed heart-shaped doughnut.
“Share your Original Glazed Heart doughnut with a friend or family member and Be Sweet to your community!” Krispy Kreme said online.
The company noted it “wanted to find a way to show our support for those who are protecting themselves and others by getting vaccinated” as the country “continues to scale COVID-19 vaccinations.”
Customers must show their COVID-19 vaccination record card to redeem the offer at participating U.S. locations. A sticker doesn’t qualify guests for the offer. No purchase is required for the offer. Guests are limited to one original glazed and one original glazed heart doughnut per day.
The new offer, which is valid through Sept. 5, comes after the doughnut shop initially began offering a free treat to customers who show proof of vaccination this spring.
The offer didn’t come without controversy, however.
In response, CEO Mike Tattersfield told Yahoo Fiance of the promotion, “We’re a sweet treat company, [and] if folks don’t want to visit a donut shop, they don’t have to.”
He added “folks that want to get a vaccine, if they decide to combine a Krispy Kreme pickup [for] a doughnut, they can. That’s how we look at it.... generosity.”
