Experts reveal the most popular interior colors for your house

How to prepare to paint a room like a pro

A fresh coat of paint can breathe new life into your space and lift your mood. So what color should you paint?

Experts at Living Cozy have your answer. They analyzed global Google search data from the last 12 months to find which colors are trending in 2022. Inbaal Honigman, a color expert, was also enlisted by the company to explain how each color affects the energy of the room.

Kitchens were the most popular room in the house for redecorating, with 6.6 million worldwide Google searches across all kitchen interior colors. And put your money on green, one of the hottest colors this year.

Here are other trending paint colors by room, according to Living Cozy:

Kitchen

Classic white is still the most popular color for kitchens, providing a sleek minimal feel, while green came in second. Blue is the third most popular kitchen color, with teal, turquoise and light blue shades trending.

“White and pale shades of green and blue are all colors that are light and airy, to make us feel lighter and capable in the kitchen environment. They are uplifting, without being overly exciting, to help us be creative, while still sticking to a recipe, following a routine, and enjoying even the most mundane tasks,” said Honigman.

Bedroom

Black ranked first on the list with 396,000 Google searches. Darker wall colors are thought to aid in getting a good night’s sleep by reducing the amount of active energy in the room.

The second most popular bedroom color is white and according to Honigman: “It makes sense that neutrals would feature at the top, as adding our own accents and personal touches is what makes us feel safe in our bedroom.”

Green, unsurprisingly, is the third most popular bedroom color, with dark green being the most popular shade.

Living room

Taking the number one spot is green with 188,100 searches. Layering different shades of green, according to Living Cozy, will bring a sense of nature into the room without the need for plants.

White came in second, serving as an excellent foundation for various design styles such as minimalist and farmhouse.

Following in the rankings is blue. “Blue is the color of the throat chakra, perfect for a talkative family who love to communicate in the living room,” said Honigman.
