Barack Obama - What you need to know

Former President Barack Obama’s one-time Washington, D.C. townhouse has hit the market for $1.279 million. The townhouse is a multi-family property that includes two residences. Obama lived in the home’s first-floor unit during his time as a senator.

“I think the appeal for [Mr.] Obama to live there was its proximity to the U.S. Capitol and the Senate and House offices,” listing agent Linda Pettie of Coldwell Banker Realty told Mansion Global.

The townhouse is 2,214 square feet, featured three bedrooms, two bathrooms and one half bathroom. See the home’s virtual tour here.

“The main unit has two bedrooms and 1.5 baths, located on the 2nd and 3rd floors,” according to the online listing. “The table space kitchen overlooks Stanton park. It provides ample storage and work space. A half bath is located between the kitchen and dining area. A huge walk in pantry is adjacent to the half bath. The east facing Living-Dining area has wood floors and working wood burning fireplace. Patio doors off the living room lead to the rear iron deck and back yard with off street parking for one car. Upstairs are two spacious bedrooms, each with excellent closet space. One full bath with shower and tub arrangement is located on this level. The laundry room is equipped with a washer and dryer stack unit and utilities. The 1st floor apartment is shown by special appt, a one bedroom, one bath presently rented for $1,500 per month and lease conveys until end of January 2024.”

The townhouse is located less than a mile from Capitol Hill, making up for the fact that it is “not extravagant by any means,” according to Pettie.
