Garth Brooks will join Lady Gaga and Jennifer Lopez during the Jan. 20 inauguration ceremonies of President-elect Joe Biden and Vice-President-elect Kamala Harris.

Lady Gaga will sing the national anthem, while Lopez is scheduled for a musical performance during the swearing-in process, which will take place on the West front of the U.S. Capitol.

Brooks said on Jan. 18 that he was invited to perform by the soon-to-be First Lady, Dr. Jill Biden, and will perform a solo song of “love and unity.”

“This is not a political statement, it’s a statement of unity … It’s an honor to get to serve,” he said.

The inauguration ceremony will also feature a poetry reading from 2017 National Youth Poet Laureate Amanda Gorman and the pledge of allegiance by Andrea Hall, president of the International Association of Firefighters Local 3920 and the first Black woman to be promoted to fire captain in Fulton County.

Donald Trump's administration deployed the military to Washington, D.C., in the name of fighting crime, and in an Aug. 11 news conference he mentioned the possibility of military being sent to other large American cities, all of which are led by Black, Democratic mayors. And while Atlanta wasn't included in Trump's list, the city fits that profile under Mayor Andre Dickens. (Photo Illustration: Philip Robibero / AJC | Source: Getty)
