Krispy Kreme is teaming up with the Red Cross to give away free doughnuts to help with a nationwide blood shortage.

“With the nation facing its worst blood shortage in over a decade, Krispy Kreme wanted to find a way to show our support for those willing to roll up a sleeve and give blood during January, National Blood Donor Month,” the company said in a news release.

Anyone who donates blood today through Jan. 31 is eligible to receive a dozen free Original Glazed doughnuts. To take Krispy Kreme up on the offer, visit a participating store and show them your dated blood donation sticker or your Red Cross blood donor app confirmation.

All blood types are needed, “especially types O positive and O negative, as well as platelet donations.” Find where to donate blood by using Red Cross’ website, the Red Cross blood donor app or by calling 1-800-733-2767.

“We’re grateful for all that the American Red Cross does for our country, and we want to help them. Hopefully a free Original Glazed dozen will increase awareness and even mobilize those who can give blood,” Dave Skena, Krispy Kreme Chief Marketing Officer, said in the release.

Donating to other blood donation organizations besides the American Red Cross will also qualify for the offer, according to Krispy Kreme.
