Kenny Leon’s True Colors Theatre is looking for its “next Travis” for the upcoming production of “Raisin” the musical.

The theater company is holding auditions for young male actors to play 10-year-old Travis in the 2022 production. Auditions are being held Saturday Oct. 2, from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday Oct. 3, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Southwest Arts Center.

“We are conducting a wide open search to find new talent for this key role in the production,” said True Colors artistic director Jamil Jude. “We want all comers whether you have had theatre experience or not.”

Actors will be asked to perform a monologue and 16-bars of a song without musical accompaniment. Interested actors can register at eventbrite.com. For more information go to TrueColorstheatre.org

The Tony Award-winning musical “Raisin” will be staged by True Colors next spring, Feb. 8 to March 22. The musical is based on the play by Lorraine Hansberry, ”A Raisin in the Sun.” “Raisin” was created by Hansberry, Robert Nemiroff and Charlotte Zaltzberg with music by Judd Woldin and lyrics by Robert Brittan..

The play takes its title from a Langston Hughes poem, “Harlem,” and the line “What happens to a dream deferred? Does it dry up like a raisin in the sun?”

Ralph Carter, who is best known for his role as Michael Evans on the television show “Good Times,” was the original Travis on Broadway.
